LG solves problems with waterless cosmetics

March 7, 2023

It can be a bit paradoxical for waterproof makeup to wash off easily. Yet LG & Nippon Shikizai are on a quest to improve water-in-oil cosmetics.

Usually it takes a lot of scrubbing to remove water resistant products. This makes the makeup removal process exhausting and also wastes water.

To solve both these issues, LG has developed a patented solution. It contains isostearic acid which has a balance of water-loving and oil-loving properties (or hydrophilic-lipophilic balance >0 and <=  if you wanna get technical about it :))

This will make the cosmetic product resist water and sweat when you want it to stay on and come off easily when you want it gone.

The first part of the image shows how the solution stays on against water and the second part shows how it dissolves against suds.

Nippon Shikizai (Japan) has also patented a water-in-oil product with the same aim. It has a powder treated with N-acylamino acid and polyglycerin fatty acid, which includes isostearic acid (or optionally sucrose fatty acid ester.)

Companies like LG, Nippon Shikizai, L’oreal & P&G are focusing on water reduction since it is one of the top trending technologies in cosmetics.

After a lot of research, we have analyzed the skincare technologies that you will be seeing a lot of in the coming time and which companies are already working on them. You can find the list here – https://www.greyb.com/blog/cosmetic-industry-innovation-trends/
