By exploring CAD models in technical brochures, the team identified critical prior art in the middle of a high-stakes litigation matter. This discovery strengthened the client’s position and enabled them to negotiate a more favorable licensing deal.
Problem Solved
The client was searching for prior art describing a diesel tank partially positioned within a cavity in the rear portion of the chassis. The exact placement of the diesel tank was rarely specified in existing patents. Most of the literature described the tank being placed at the bottom or in the rear bonnet.

Solutions Offered
The team expanded the search beyond patent databases and followed a trail of clues across non-patent literature. They located technical brochures containing CAD drawings, which eventually pointed to an identical model uploaded by a student on GrabCAD.
The caption on the CAD file provided the missing link. It guided the team to a product video that visibly demonstrated the exact diesel tank placement the client needed, completing the chain of evidence.
