NASA’s 40% lighter & 3x powerful battery
NASA has managed to create a solid state battery that weighs 40% less than a lithium-ion battery and stores triple the amount of energy.
These lighter battery packs will be safer and perform better than the batteries used in vehicles now.
For better comparison, NASA’s solid-state battery has a whopping 500 Wh/kg energy density, while Tesla’s 4680 batteries in the Model Y boast 300 Wh/kg energy density.
Every company wants a smaller and more efficient battery. However, the science behind it has not been that easy.
There are many companies apart from NASA that are working hard to make efficient solid state batteries.
Like Cymbet Corporation’s solid state batteries EnerChipTM are made using semiconductor fabrication technology to make rechargeable batteries. And they also don’t have any liquids, gels, or hazardous chemicals in them.
