Industry Problem

Storing energy for longer periods is vital to build a robust and secure energy system and ensure that renewable energy is used efficiently

R&D Focus

Thermal energy storage tech

Innovative Solution

SynchroStor’s system uses electricity to run the compressor, raising the pressure and temperature of an operating gas. Thermal storage material is heated by the gas in a heat exchanger. In the discharging cycle, the electric motor becomes a generator to return energy to the grid.

Solution Effectiveness

SynchroStor stores electricity at times when there is over supply of wind or solar at a project cost cheaper than batteries This system works at much higher pressures, which significantly improves power density whilst reducing cost
