Innovation

Industry Problem

Project Greenland, is addressing one of the most pressing global challenges: the growing scarcity of freshwater.

R&D Focus

Project Greenland operates in the unconventional water resource sector, focusing specifically on premium Arctic glacier meltwater recovery and logistics for high-demand, water-scarce regions such as MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Innovative Solution

Project Greenland, involves capturing and preserving 140 trillion litres of premium glacial meltwater from Greenland before it flows into the ocean. This freshwater is then transported in bulk to water-scarce regions such as MENA, Africa, and parts of the U.S. to support drinking water supply, agriculture, and energy needs. By turning a climate crisis, accelerated glacier melt, into a resource opportunity, the startup offers a sustainable, cross-border freshwater supply chain aimed at addressing global water, food, and energy security.

Solution Effectiveness

Project Greenland preserves 140 trillion liters of freshwater—enough to provide drinking water for over 1 billion people for a year (based on 130 liters per person per day). In 2019 alone, Greenland lost 532 trillion liters of glacier meltwater to the sea, highlighting the scale of untapped potential. The MENA region, home to 6.3% of the global population but only 1.4% of the world’s freshwater, faces extreme scarcity, making it a key beneficiary. Capturing even 1% of annual glacier melt could significantly ease freshwater stress for tens of millions of people globally.

Product

– Project Greenland’s, Arctic Freshwater Bulk Transfer, uses a multi-modal distribution system combining large-capacity dedicated tankers (10 to 50 million litres) with truck and train transport to deliver premium Arctic freshwater efficiently from ports to inland storage, enabling reliable supply to municipal and regional water infrastructure in severely water-stressed areas. – Customer Review: “Project Greenland is the first of its kind an environmentally, socially and financially responsible venture that captures, banks, and exports Greenland’s pristine ice melt freshwater surplus.”

Star Product

The star product is the Dedicated Arctic Freshwater Tankers. They are the core of the solution because their massive capacity and specialized design enable the large-scale, efficient transport of premium Arctic freshwater, making it possible to supply severely water-stressed regions reliably and at scale—something no other system in the market currently offers.

Demo Product or Complete Product?

Project Greenland’s product has already launched and started exporting super premium freshwater to regions such as MENA, Texas, California, and Europe since at least 2022, marking it as an operational and impactful solution in the water supply market.
