Innovation

Industry Problem

JCCL is addressing the global problem of CO₂ emissions and climate change by developing advanced CO₂ capture and recycling technology.

R&D Focus

JCCL focuses on innovative CO₂ capture and recycling technologies, including advanced solid absorbents, membrane separation systems, and process simulations tailored for low-cost, energy-efficient carbon capture. Their R&D stems from deep collaboration with Kyushu University, backed by NEDO, JST, and JAXA.

Innovative Solution

JCCL addresses the challenge of energy-intensive and costly CO₂ capture by developing innovative, low-cost technologies such as amine-containing gel absorbents and membrane coating fluids that work effectively even in humid environments. Their solutions include customized CO₂ capture equipment and modules tailored to various emission sources, along with in-house process simulations to optimize performance. This integrated approach enables efficient CO₂ separation from both exhaust gases and ambient air, supporting scalable, cost-effective carbon capture for a sustainable future.

Solution Effectiveness

JCCL’s solutions demonstrate high effectiveness, with their VPSA1 device achieving over 97% CO₂ purity when capturing from gas streams containing around 7% CO₂, typical of post-combustion exhaust. Their membrane evaluation system (VSS1) has also consistently concentrated 13% CO₂ to over 97% for more than a month, indicating strong durability and performance. Moreover, their amine-containing gel absorbents operate efficiently without requiring pre-drying and at lower temperatures, significantly reducing energy costs compared to traditional amine solutions.

Star Product

Vacuum-reduced steam swing type CO₂ capture unit (VPSA1) is the star product, it can capture CO₂ at over 97% purity from typical post-combustion exhaust gases (around 7% CO₂), using a unique pressure and humidity control mechanism that efficiently recovers CO₂ with lower energy use.

Demo Product or Complete Product?

JCCL’s first commercial products are the VPSA1 and VSS1 CO₂ capture devices, launched in 2024. The VPSA1 utilizes solid absorbents to recover approximately 2 kg of CO₂ per day at over 97% purity, while the VSS1 evaluates the performance of CO₂ separation membranes.
