Star Product

The star product is Cool Planet Technologies’ membrane-based carbon capture system using Hereon’s PolyActive™ membrane technology. It stands out because it significantly lowers the cost and energy required for capturing CO₂, especially in hard-to-abate industries such as cement, steel, and coal-fired power. Its chemical-free, energy-efficient process powered by renewable electricity makes it environmentally friendly, scalable, and ideal for retrofitting existing plants, addressing a critical need for affordable, large-scale industrial decarbonization.

Demo Product or Complete Product?

Cool Planet Technologies has not yet launched a commercial product but is currently in the demonstration and scale-up stage. Their carbon capture system, based on Hereon’s PolyActive™ membrane technology, has been successfully tested in pilot projects, including at Holcim’s Höver cement plant since early 2022. The initial system captured 5,600 tons of CO₂ per year, with planned expansions to 170,000 tons in 2024 and 1.3 million tons by 2026. They are building a larger demonstration plant targeting 10,000 tons per year, expected to be operational soon. This staged approach aims to validate the technology’s performance, economics, and operability before full commercial rollout.
