Can Agricultural Waste Save Us From Forever Chemicals?
Have you figured out a way to remove PFAS (perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances) from your packaging?
The US Senate Committee on Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP) has passed the amendment to ban the use of PFAS in food packaging. And not just US, EU too has announced that it will ban the use of harmful chemical groups like PFAS, bisphenol and PVC by 2030.
These “forever chemicals” help in paper packaging, water-repelling and grease-proofing. But they also weaken our immune system.
So in case you’re looking for a PFAS alternative, I wanted to share new research by BIO-LUTIONS. This hamburg-based CleanTech startup has found a substitute.
They convert agricultural residues into unique, self-binding, durable “fibcro” natural fibers.
Their patented method eliminates the need for binding agents. And these barrier coatings are available as water-based polymer emulsions and solid bio waxes.
We created a list of startups which are following sustainability guidelines for our clients who were looking for earth friendly packaging materials. If you too are in search of “greener” packaging you can find the list here-
Else if there’s a particular hurdle that’s challenging you, don’t forget to tell us here. I’m sure we can help.
